I had the pleasure of dining at The Vines Restaurant in Dartmouth this week. After hearing so many people rave about it for years, I finally know what the fuss is about. This is an intimate restaurant tucked away in what appears to be an old house. The decor is subtle and it creates a great atmosphere for dining.
The meal starts with complimentary warm loaf and butter. I ordered the lasagna which was large enough for two and accompanied by a garden salad. The dressing which was served on the side without having to ask was a very zesty Italian - mmm! My dinner companion ordered the Cajun Salmon which is served with Basmati rice and vegetables. The salmon was cooked to perfection.
For dessert we shared a Tiramisu. I have never liked it before but I thought since we were eating Italian...I'd give it another shot and am I glad I did...It was like a little taste of Heaven. The brandy used to soften the lady fingers was not overpowering and the whole dessert was a great combination.
The whole meal was reasonably priced. The two of us ate for approximately $50. If you get the chance...GO!
A friend of mine turned me on to HK Wong's. The food is consistently delicious and always fresh. I usually will order a combination plate that includes rice, soo gai, and sweet and sour chicken balls. To add an extra item is very reasonably priced between $2.50 and $3.50. The soo gai and sweet and sour chicken always have more chicken than batter with is definitely a plus.
When dining in I have always found the staff to be very quick and courteous.
A friend and I visited Chinatown on the night before Valentine's Day. The owner's of HK Wong's (in Dartmouth) recently took this restaurant over and have not disappointed me with the quality of the food. The food is always fresh, the decor is inviting. They can accommodate small and large groups. We enjoyed ginger beef, plain fried rice, sweet and sour chicken and egg rolls (all individual dishes) for under $40. It is a great value and all around delicious. The only issue I had was that being the night before Valentine's Day and extremely busy they were not offering combination plates.

I had dinner here last night with a few of the girls. We had a delicious meal with a wide variety of options. I found the service was a bit slow at first but I attribute that to the fact that our reservation was for 6 and only 4 people showed. Once we told the server that we were not waiting for anyone else, the service was speedier. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to someone looking for Thai food. Four of us were able to eat for under $100.
While visiting friends in Montreal, I had the pleasure of having dinner at Rockaberry. The main courses were tasty, the pizza being thin crust but what truly amazed me was the pie. This place is known primarily as a dessert restaurant and pie is the reason.
With 22 varieties of luscious pies, I was hard pressed to choose just one. The truffle pie was my choice and I was not disappointed. It was rich and chocolatey. I was also lucky enough to try both the toberlone cheese pie and the caramel fudge cheese pie...both were totally worth the calories and the 5 extra pounds!
If you are looking for dessert and you are in Montreal I suggest you check this place out. There are 6 location to serve you!
With 25 different recipes for poutine, there is something for everyone - that is unless you don't like fries, gravy and cheese...
This is a funky little restaurant on Rachel Est in Montreal with a cool atmosphere and quick service. If you want poutine and you are in Montreal, I suggest that you check out Resto La Banquise.
I order pizza from C&O regularly. As a caper not in Cape Breton is the the closest pizza to home I have found this side of the causeway. When I order pepperoni, green pepper and mushroom they actually call it the cape bretoner. The pepperoni is mild as is the sauce a pizza like this really needs no embellishment. They offer a wide variety of toppings (if you must have them) and an assortment of other foods if pizza is not what you have a hankering for.
been here a couple times, food is always good, service is fantastic. There was an entree I ordered that I didn't like because of personal preference and they didn't charge me for it and were overly apologetic over the issue. Great Staff!!
