When you travel through European cities it's easy to get sucked into the neighbourhood cafe scene. Now there's no need to travel to Europe - get your coffee fix at Cafe Brea in Dartmouth.
Cafe Brea is an easy walk from Manor Park and surrounding neighbourhoods - they are an awesome new espresso bar with all of the specialty coffee's you expect; latte's, cappuccinos etc.
They also make real fresh fruit smoothies at very reasonable rates, with local produce. Their local theme also continues with their baked goods, many of which are gluten-free and locally produced. Check out their 'Schoolhouse' granola and other yummy edibles in a cozy & warm atmosphere.
Congrats to Melita Scott, a busy local mom and owner of the Cafe Brea on Portland Street in Dartmouth!
This is an odd spot. Tucked away in a little strip mall in a weird part of town, but I'd glad that the hotel staff recommended it.
I tried their seafood medley and steak combo (very reasonable at $18) and was pleased with the food. The seafood was shrimp, lobster and scallops with a delicious layer of cheese over the top. The steak was a strip-loin and done very well - 'medium/rare'.
The placed was packed (always a good sign) and I managed to get a seat. Friendly staff and a casual dining experience. If passing through new Glasgow and you need a food break, avoid the fast food and head to Crofters
Their lunch specials are great - you get 6 pieces of California roll, Tuna & Salmon Sushi, Salad, Spring roll, Chicken (or beef) teriyaki, & rice served in a bento box with Miso Soup...excellent deal
This just took Halifax dining up a notch.
This definitely has that big city restaurant feel in little old Halifax. The service was superb - the decor is off the hook/amazing and the food was wonderful.
I'm sure the whole, cooking your own food at your table thing will freak a few Haligonians out a little until they get used to it. Try the beef - obviously authentic Korean style - it was to die for.
We enjoy the buskers festival in Halifax every year - and its great to see the 2010 buskers festival promoting many more local acts.
They continue to get great acts in from Asia and Europe too.
On chatting with the owner it appears that they have over 80 different blended teas from around the world to choose from. They split them into categories and you can open up little jars to smell them before you order....very cool idea.
I tried their 'Tali's Masala Chai' which was light and flavourful. They have a nice sitting area to enjoy your tea inside, or get it to go in a groovy little to-go bag.
Nice spot on Argyle Street - where the old Uncommon Ground coffee shop used to be, opposite The Neptune Theatre .
My family and I ate at China Town last night and thoroughly enjoyed their food. We heard that Wong's Palace had taken over and knew that their food would be better than the previous owners of China Town.
We shared the Singapore Noodles, General Tsao Chicken, Seafood Chow Mein, BBQ sliced Pork and Spring Rolls. We found the portions to be large and the food to be tasty. Definitely somewhere we would go back.
General Tso's Chicken!
Been going to Wongs for a few years - and there food remains consistently good.
My favourite dishes; BBQ sliced Pork, Singapore noodles (ask for their special chinese menu), special fried rice with chicken - but the best by a mile is their General Tso's Chicken.
They also deliver.
