I have mixed feelings about Winchester’s. I had to buy a bridesmaid gown, and Winchester’s was the only store carrying the line of dresses that the bride wanted. The first time I went to look around, there were other girls shopping for prom dresses. Every saleswoman was doting on these high school girls – in some cases, two saleswomen per girl, fussing and fluttering about them as if their money was more important than mine. Meanwhile, not a single saleswoman offered to help me, even when I explained what I was looking for, with a precise list of the sku numbers, so I walked out. When I was ready to go back the second time, I did get a nice saleswoman (thanks, Piera!), but it wasn’t enough to un-do the negative first impression. They did win back some of my respect in the quick turnaround time to receive the dress. But, if any other store in Nova Scotia carried that dress, I’d have traveled there to get it.
