I hear good things all the time about Vinnies Pasta Bar but on the few occasions Ive gone I have to admit that Ive wondered why it gets the reviews it does. Maybe Im ordering the wrong pastas but generally I find the pasta sauces taste like something I could make (and believe me thats not a good thing the reason I eat at so many restaurants is that I dont cook). Now, if I stopped after the bread, this review would be a 5 star review but if I only wanted bread, Id go to a bakery. Overall, Id say dont waste your time. The food is okay, but only just okay, and the chairs are horribly uncomfortable. If it wasn't for the bread it would only have been 1 star!

Vinnie's Pasta Bar is a hidden gem! They serve home made fresh pasta and their prices are so reasonable- for $12 you get a main dish, plus salad or soup, and they start you out with a home made loaf of bread! My first experience at Vinnie's was on Valentine's day- my friend and I were just looking for a place near by to have a nice dinner and when we arrived there was a rose on the table waiting for us- such a nice touch! The service is friendly and the food is always tasty. I recommend Vinnie's to everyone!

I can't believe I didn't know about Vinnie's sooner. It's tucked away in the south end, but it's one of the best restaurants in the city. At the recommendation of the waitress, I tried the Cajun fettuccine, and it was outstanding. The sauce was spicy but not too hot, and the pasta was every-so-slightly al dente, which is how it should be served. With a nice house wine, friendly but not intrusive service, and good prices, this was a very enjoyable meal. I'm looking forward to going to Vinnie's again.

I tried Vinnie's for the first time this week on the recommendation of a co-worker and they didn't disappoint. My sons had their pepperoni pizza (and I stole a slice) and I had their red curry pasta (yes, odd sounding I know).

The red curry chicken pasta ($12) was a combination of a traditional pasta style sauce, but with the red curry kick to it...not too spicy and was excellent. The pasta also came with a choice of Garden or Caesar salad and a large bread roll.

The pepperoni pizza came on a 10 inch thin crust (fresh and tasty) and was also only $12. Great prices, great food.

I absolutely love Vinnie's! The atmosphere is warm and cozy, and the service is first class. But of course, the main attraction is the food. My friends and I have never been disappointed. The homemade loaf of bread that comes to each table is simply mouth-watering -- soft on the inside but crusty on the outside, and served piping hot with whipped butter. I get hungry just thinking about it!

Other favourites are the rice balls, linguini with meat sauce (amazing sauce!), Sicilian sausage pasta, and the Cajun fettucine. Vinnie's is my favourite neighbourhood restaurant, and actually, it's my favourite Italian restaurant in Halifax. It's definitely one of the gems of the south end.

If you're not familiar with Vinnie's, you should know that sometimes they'll close up early in the evenings if it's not busy, so the owners and staff can spend more time with their families. You might want to call ahead if you're going for a late dinner.
