3 Reviews for Pogue Fado
I have a little soft spot for the Pogue! Besides having good tunes, decent pub food and good beer, I know first hand that the staff work together as a family and I always feel at home when I pop by! This place is packed most nights, and is a well know place to go on Thursday nights in Halifax!
I went here at dinner time on a Friday. It took a while to get noticed by a waitress, but the service was reasonable given how busy it was.
I liked the live band that was there; not sure who they were. Music was Great Big Sea-style.
A couple of the people I was with wanted the 25 cent wings, but that special didn't start until 7:30 (I think). They were also out of sweet potato fries which made me sad. :(
I had the roasted vegetable sandwich, I didn't like the sauce too much (too much vinegar?) but other than that, it was good. Bread was very soft!
The Pogue makes great wings – really big and juicy – and they’re only 25 cents each most nights of the week. Good burgers and fish & chips too. They also have some traditional Irish fare, like stew and steak & Guinness pie.
I do have one complaint: quite often, it takes awhile for the waitstaff to notice you, especially if you sit in the booths on the left-hand side. The pub is long and narrow, and if the staff are at the other end and/or not paying attention, they won't see you. Also, the pub can get extremely crowded (mostly university students), especially after 9pm or if there’s a live band, so that might affect when you want to go there.
