It is easy to find your way around the shop and I find the staff very knowledgeable and helpful. Prices reflect quality. They don't have bags so remember to bring your own!

THE ONLY place to shop for outdoor gear

they have low prices and great service.

MEC is the best one-stop-shop in Halifax for outdoor equipment and clothing (their jackets last a lifetime). However, the service is inconsistent. I've dealt with some very helpful and knowledgeable staff, but also with some terribly lazy and useless staff. If I'm gonna pay big bucks at a specialty store, I expect the staff to know what they're talking about (or at least be willing to find out).

This is place has everything you can imagine for outdoor pastimes.

Rock Climbing, kayaking, hiking, camping, etc...they have it all. If you can't afford the big ticket items then you can rent them (canoes, ski's etc).

I love going in just to look around. They also have a good selection of books and maps.

Many people don't know it but located right in the downtown core is a MEC. Once I found out about it I was going here almost everyday. The store is quite large and the selection is great. Staff are friendly and provide lots of help if need be. I find that MEC carries a better selection of biking equipment that the other competition in the area (other than the specialty stores, of course) and it's reasonably priced.
