6 Reviews for Morris East
Further to my review of last week- I wanted to add that there is a tiny salted caramel tartlet available for $2. Now I no longer have an excuse to order two complete desserts. Not a good thing for me, but to those who want to sample a few bites of deliciousness you are in luck!
Morris East is my 'go to' spot for lunch with friends-a cozy atmosphere with a small but perfectly formed menu of tasty wood fired pizzas, salads, and savoury soups. But I would be remiss not to mention the real star of the meal-the dessert! For the longest time I have been unwilling to deviate from the S'more- a homemade graham cracker/cookie,nestled in a pool of warm chocolate sauce, topped by a toasted gooey marshmallow. But that was until I tried the caramel tartlet topped with sea salt. Heavenly!! Toughest part of the entire meal is choosing which one to indulge in-so now I order both with extra forks. Which I won't let my friends use-they are just for the benefit of the waitress.
Morris East is this tiny little restaurant tucked away on Morris St. (the entrance can be a little confusing, it's just as hidden). Like many other reviewers said, they serve thin crust, personal sized pizzas.
I ordered their standard pizza with peperoni on top. The pizza was cooked perfectly. The peperoni was not your standard affair; it was crisp, thin, and in long strips. The also added basil to very good effect. As well, they give you what seemed like olive oil infused with some hot spicy goodness and I just couldn't get enough of it.
If you're in the downtown area and are in the mood for some gourmet pizza, then I recommend you give Morris East a shot.
A small but charming spot in Halifax's south-end, this place has a pizza for most taste buds. All their pizzas are personal size (9' inches) and on a thin crust base.
I had their chicken pizza which came with figs and provolone - very tasty. I also tried a slice of the peach and pork (an odd combo i know) which was suprisingly good. The warm potato & bacon side salad starter was excellent and very popular according to our server.
The cocktail drinks menu was also very interesting (try their Passion Fruit, Vodka, Basil and lime infused cocktail)...and all made with fresh ingredients.
I finished with their small caramel tart, topped off with a slight sprinkling of rock salt and cream - this was delicious. Service was excellent, friendly and knowledgable....a 5 stars for sure and didnt break the bank. I'll go again.
I really haven't been to Morris East for a while. I kind of forgot about it until I was browsing GenieKnows and read the other review. It's a little off the beaten track (in terms of restaurants anyway), down near the corner of Morris and Barrington. It's a tiny little place but for my money, probably the best pizza in town and still apparently the best kept secret. A great place for a last minute "where should we go tonight?".
The menu may be small, but the quality is big! Morris East has the most original pizza ingredients in the city, often drawing from local flavours, and changing with the seasons. It's the perfect place for a simple meal of soup, salad, pizza, wine and dessert. The cozy atmosphere is a welcome addition to the south-end neighbourhood. It's often hard to get a seat, but it's worth the wait.
