Roxanne, aka Roxy, is the Madrigal’s beloved bulldog. You’ll often find her snoozing under one of the CD shelves, or roaming around the plaza. Tom (Roxy’s and the Madrigal’s owner) is extremely music savvy, having come from a radio background, and he and his staff are great at making recommendations for classical, new age, blues and jazz music. They focus on quality, not quantity or popularity, so there are some rare gems to be found. You can also sign up for the store’s newsletter, “Roxanne Recommends,” to get the latest news. The Madrigal definitely fills a void in the Halifax music scene. And, if it weren’t for the Madrigal, I might never have met Loreena McKennitt after 20 years of being a fan.
