9 Reviews for Hamachi House Fine Japanese Cuisine
Trust me, I've had sushi pizza at them all, and Hamachi House on Morris has the best Sushi pizza in the city! A bit pricy, but it's filling, so the pizza and an appitizer will definitly do the trick! Get it with salmon and tuna (i believe the menu is incorrect anyway). Their bento box lunch special is great as well- there's better selection than most and the service was fast and friendly!
Arriving at Hamachi last week around 7, we were greeted with a wait which is more than understandable considering it was their busiest time. After about 30 minutes, we were seated. It took another 20 minutes for our drink orders to be taken while other tables that were seated after us had already put in their orders.
Despite the service, the sushi was excellent - being very fresh, non fishy and tightly packed. Their lobster rolls in particular were superb.
By the time we left, it was around 10, so if you go around 7, be prepared to stay for quite a while.
This is THE place for bento boxes. They come with their famous ginger-dressing salad, a choice of beef, chicken, shrimp, or salmon teriyaki, rice, tempura, and sushi. The sushi you get depends on your selection of the bento box.
Amazing dinner combos as well. The chefs are experts in sashimi arrangements - give it a try!
The Bento Box is a good option if you don't have much time for lunch, and the maki is ridiculously cheap! The service is good when the restaurant isn't busy, but sometimes it seems like they can't keep up with the crowds. Still, it has great atmosphere and the food is delicious.
Service was fast and excellent Bento Box.
Downside is there is not a lot of privacy for a business lunch, I could hear all of the conversations around me.
Hamachi House offers complimentary miso soup during the cold months, has good and fair-priced lunch specials and has some unique maki rolls, including tropical fruit maki which contains no seafood: strawberry, pineapple and kiwi wrapped in soy paper. The fruit/rice combination was a little strange, but it was still good.
If you sit around the bar, you can watch the chefs at work, which will help pass the time while you're waiting for your food (which is a bit long, in my opinion).
This place has super decor and a very cosy atmosphere, which makes it a great spot for a date or get together with a friend or two (it's pretty small), but I must say that the sushi served here is most definitely not the best that Halifax has to offer... when it comes to the food, it's good, just not the best.
The best sushi in Halifax. Great atmosphere and great prices. Especially after 10pm, during happy hours. You can have a maki for less than 5 bucks.
The local is not so big, but one can usually find a place to sit. Of course, reservation is an option. But the size makes it really cosy which I like.
I've tried just about every sushi restaurant in town and Hamachi brings the best. Its always fresh, the service is great, and if you sit at the sushi bar you can watch the chefs prepare your meal just before they pass it to you. The ambience is nice, its seems authentically Japanese and is usually quiet, even when the place is full. Go after 10 PM to take advantaged of Happy Maki Hour.
