I'm a big fan of this place. The fireside is one of the most cozy bars in Halifax. The upstairs is wide open with a terrific 'sun type' room while the basement is as cozy as a warm basement in the winter. There are fire places all over the bar in both the upstairs and the basement.
If you happen to go...try some of their starters. The Goat Cheese dish is superb and the nachos are top notch. The artichoke dip could be a little better but you can't win them all I guess.
On Monday, martinis cost about $4.43. I've tried the "melon ball" (fruity!) and the "mochatini" (coffee!) which was so tasty that I'll probably try to mimic it at home!
Food wise, their spinach artichoke dip is very good. The chips seem to be baked tortilla (spinach & sun-dried tomato?). The waiter even brought more chips when we ran out before the dip was gone.
I had the "chocolate concoction" dessert as well, which wasn't super amazing, but it was only $4 so no great loss. My friend seems to be very fond of the raspberry dessert they have.
The only complaint I have is that sitting on the couches while trying to eat (therefore sitting close to the table) was a bit hard on my back.
A nice place for after work dinner and drinks with co-workers or a date. Martinis are fab, and the raspberry kuchen is delicious.
The Tex Mex nachos are where it is at!!! The food selection is limited however everything taste great.
Fireside is a great martini bar; Monday being their Martini night (well actually Monday is martini night everywhere in Halifax).
It might seem like a small place when you enter, but there's a second floor and a hidden room behind the bar. So even though the place might look full, you should still be able to find a spot.
Fireside is a very comfortable place to eat or just go for a few drinks with friends. The service and food are good as well. As far as martinis go, they are pretty good and one of the cheapest places to get martinis on Monday nights. Beware though, it usually gets really busy and early too on "Martini Mondays" so get there early if you want a seat.
The Fireside is one of the coziest restaurants in the city. In addition to the pub-style tables and fireplaces on the main level, the upstairs level is more open, with big comfy booths and couches. In my opinion, they make the best martinis in the city. The food menu hasn't changed in years, and although it's very good, it would be nice to see something a little different from time to time.
