I am not artistic at all. Never was, never will be. I have accepted this, and enjoy decorating my house with beautiful things created by others. However, since my 6 yr old son and I have discovered the Clay Cafe, there have been a few additions to my home decor that stick out like a sore thumb.
Walking into the Clay Cafe, which is a bright, open space, you are immediately drawn to the wall of shelves, which hold a host of items to paint. Mugs and bowls, piggy banks and trinket boxes, skulls and sports items, just to name a few. Prices start around the $15 price point for a smaller item, and go up depending on the size of the object. The price includes all of the paint and materials you need to create your objet d'art.
Friendly staff are on hand to help walk you thought the process of choosing glazes, and how to apply them. Music is playing in the background, and I must say it is a very relaxing way to while away a few hours. When your creation is complete, you take it up to the cash, where they label it, and put it on a shelf to be baked in the kiln. They provide you with a pick up date when you can drop back in to the shop to pick up your finished piece, which is now all shiny and glazed!
The only tough part is telling which one was done by me(yikes-a speckled pink skull piggy bank), and which was done by the boy! Fun!
A fun and relaxing environment in which to make your own pottery. There's a huge variety of items to choose from - from the practical to the weird - and you don't have to be a great artist to make something unique. Fun for kids and kids at heart, and a great way to spend a rainy afternoon.
