As a parent, I'm always on the prowl for items to amuse, delight, and most importantly, divert my young spawn's attention from an electrical device. Haligonians- take note- Carbonstok on Barrington St is a treasure trove of just such items!
As just one of the businesses falling under The Uncommon Group umbrella, the wide variety of Eco friendly, creative, and often whimsical items in stock certainly live up to the Groups' reputation of quality. Moments after entering Carbonstok, I watched in awe as my little guy was immediately transfixed by the array of cool offerings- in particular the windup robot insect collection. As he was occupied, I was left to peruse the shop, and it's collection of items- from note cards, to prints, bowls made of records, soaps, and decor objects, just to name a few. All unique, and all great ideas for your home, or for a gift.
It's not often I have to drag my son from a store- thanks Carbonstok! Christmas and birthday present shopping is now easier than ever!

This is one of my go-to's when it comes to gifts! They have neat little 'earth friendly' gadgets, books, toys, kitchenware, clothes- you name it! It's even just fun to go in and look around! They're connected to the Uncommon Grounds coffee shop, so when you're done shopping, you can relax and have a latte!

What a great store! I'd walked past it many times, but it was the "naked boy table lamp" that finally lured me in to see what was going on in there! Lots of environmentally-conscious products, but even if that's not your thing, they carry so many unique, fun and practical objects. I love the "buddha bowls," which have a built-in slot for your chopsticks, and the "lamps in a box." Funny greeting cards and interesting books too. Will definitely be checking this place out more often!

I visited this store recently and was impressed. There are a lot of unique trinkets here that I've only seen online before. Highly recommended!
They also give you reusable bags with your purchase. Good for groceries!
(Edited to add) Almost forgot - I was looking for something specific ("Ugly Dolls"). This store didn't have what I was looking for but he called their kids store (Uncommon Kids, I think) for me to see if they had it in stock (which they do).
