2 Reviews for Art Gallery of Nova Scotia
I agree with the previous reviewer to some extent: the main installations have rarely changed over the years (i.e. Maud Lewis). However, the Gallery has had many interesting and unique temporary exhibits - ranging from authentic Dr. Seuss drawings to local folk art and photography, to Egyptian artifacts. I think it's an issue of timing (on the visitor's part) and PR (on the Gallery's part) - check ahead to see what's on display.
The Gallery does offer free admission occasionally, and it also has a lovely shop and cafe (Cheapside). It doesn't compare to some of the larger metropolitan galleries I've been to, but for what and where it is, I think it's extremely well organized and arranged. And, the Art Sales & Rental office is great for people who want to "test out" some artwork before buying it outright. I hope they continue to offer programs and classes to art enthusiasts of all ages too.
Coming from larger cities where Art Galleries and Museums are free to the public really spoils you. I think AGNS is over-priced and the displays rarely change.
